Creating Visibility For New Thinking:
A Talk with Alex Schill on the ADCE Student Awards

ADCE has just launched its very first student competition, and the call for entries is officially open till the 27th of September. To dive deeper into this exciting new initiative, we sat down with ADCE’s President and Chief Creative Officer at Serviceplan, Alex Schill. He shared his insights on why ADCE took this bold step to create a multidisciplinary platform for young creatives. Here’s what he had to say:

What inspired ADCE to launch a dedicated competition for students this year?

The ADCE strongly embraces the power of change. And there is no doubt that in these times, things change faster than ever. Knowledge and new forms of creativity develop from the scretch all across the world. Old ways of doing things still do work here and there, but being disruptive and brave will push us forward much faster. Students are not overloaded with the idea of following old paths and rules. Being aware of this, the ADCE wants to give this kind of fresh thinking a new platform. And new ways of gaining a pan-European visibility

As President of ADCE, what are you most excited about the launch of the Student Awards?

As president of the ADCE, I am excited about the freshness of ideas that have nothing they could be compared to. No “similar like…” or “trying to adopt this or that…” – completely fresh, brave and dis-respectful to what we today think is good. My advice to everyone who enters work here is, not trying to be “as good as…”, but simply to be different.

What impact do you hope the ADCE Student Awards will have on young creatives?

We are creating the ADCE Student Awards on the one hand to give fresh creativity a platform to be recognized. But on the other hand also to help young creatives to share their knowledge, discuss their very own experiences and build global alliances of mindlike people. The future will be built by pan-cultural teams from all around the world where egos have no space to live.

In your opinion, how does recognizing and celebrating student work contribute to the overall growth and evolution of the creative industry?

Young talent is the seed of the future. To create visibility for new thinking and to foster disruptive braveness is the duty from all of us.
