In Romania, card adoption and usage are still at a minimum. In 2018, 80% of transactions were cash, Romanians still preferring cash vs. card (under 10%* of all payments are done electronically). Taking into account the market’s context, Mastercard wants to encourage people to use their cards, therefore it aimed for the most skeptical audience: SENIORS and the most traditional payment: BUILDING UTILITIES.
