When Music Flows Into Pictures

In June 2012, the Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra wanted to attract visitors to their concert "The Moldau" ("Vltava") by Bedrich Smetana.
On a 16x2 meter billboard, artist Debbie Smyth visualized the storyline of this piece of classical music live and in public, using 1.2 kilometres of string and 5,900 nails. The strings flowed from a (real) violin into the scenes pictured by the music.
The finished work of art was exhibited in front of the Hamburg music hall.
